I thought these were so cute over at: oh, wait, I suck at writing down where I get these pictures from, so if you know, could you let me know?
Anyway, I thought this would be really cute sticking out from something in our house. Couch, toy box, ottoman, or even the entertainment center. I might have to go and find some funky Halloween socks and do this.
This morning while looking through my blog list I found one of the most awesome entries I’ve seen in awhile. It was on one of my favorite blogs, Be Different Act Normal. In the posting, here, she showed a few of her favorite things to do with leftover bottles, and a link to The Stories of A 2 Z, which had even more ideas on reusing bottles, here.
So it got me thinking.
I hope you don’t take this the wrong way, but, my parents are winos. Wait, I mean they are wine aficionados, which means they really like wine, going to wineries, tasting new wines, doing wine pairings, etc. So they would have lots of leftover bottles to use for some of these. I already have them saving the corks and wine labels that they love for these two other projects, so...why not the bottles, too?
I am so going to make these! How cute! Wouldn’t it be fun for Joe to take these to school with him when school starts in the fall? Ours will probably be Honest Kids instead of Capri Sun, though. I found them here, on Thrifty fun.
I have several big t-shirts that I had for Joe’s Flag Football days when he was with the Steelers, rather than the Ravens. I look at them hanging in my closet and often wonder what to do with them. I have considered a quilt, reusable bags, pillows, etc, but we’re not THAT big of Steelers fans. So, an apron would be perfect!
This morning I was going through my blogs and when I rolled onto Ruffles and Stuff, I totally fell in love with this idea. I am so going to make these! Stay tuned for the end results.

I’ve always wanted to wear an apron around the house on the weekends. But, I don’t like the half aprons. During the day, typically, my ‘lower half’ is not what is dirty from all the things I’ve done, it’s always the top half. So a half apron, while adorable, would never work. So, typically, while at home I throw on an old Tshirt...grubby and ugly...yuck.
I love my fly lady, but don’t really care for her vest, sorry but it reminds me of a grandma, and while I don’t really qualify as young anymore, I’m not that old yet, either.
I am LOVINGLaurel’s “Housewife Apron”. I am putting this on my sewing project list. I’ll let you know if it turns out! Side note: For those of you that don’t know Fly Lady, you must go to her website. She will get you organized and she also has AMAZING cleaning tools. I love her Rubba Scrubba, Rubba Swisha, Grocery bag set, fly duster, and rags in a bag.
Love this idea that I found on 'A Little Great' today. I've been needing something Easter on my front door. The problem is keeping everyone from trying to pry the jelly beans off of it...

Joe's dream catcher has broken a couple of times, and so when I saw this, I thought it would be a great idea for the kids to make. I found it here at 4 Crazy Kings.
Ok, here we go! The Hooge house is going to start composting. Granted, this is entirely my project, but I am excited to share it with the kids, and who knows, maybe I will be able to get Jon on board too!
I was online looking through our town's web-page when I came upon their composting program. Believe it or not, they offer composting machines, free (!!!), to residents to encourage local composting. They also have an awesome recycling program, hazardous material recycling program, and bulk trash pick up program. All I did was fill out a form requesting two composting machines and, poof, they were placed on our lawn this morning during our regular trash pick up. Talk about efficient! They even include a little handbook that comes with the machines, and these are brand spanking new, too!
So, why do I want to compost? There's lots of reasons, really. The first, of course, is that any little thing I can do to help the environment is a good thing. I mean, I don't think I'll be one of those that can go without my electricity or cars, but I can at least compost my kitchen waste. Frankly, I'm a little appalled by how much trash our family generates, so hopefully, this will make a little dent in that. Also, last year we did our own little victory garden in the backyard, and being in Arizona, anything you can do to help the soil you are growing in is definitely a step in the right direction. I've started planning our spring garden that we'll plant here soon, and so I was inspired to start composting while doing a bit of research for that. Speaking of which...anyone have any ideas how to keep the birds off of my tomatoes? Last year we lost a lot of them to the birds.
So, if you live in Gilbert, please check out their composting program, it's well worth the 10 minutes a week you will invest in it. Or, if you don't live near me, keep an eye on your town's website. Who knows, you may be surprised what all your town is doing to make this a greener planet.
Here’s a really great idea for those of you that have kids of the age to either be fighting over the tech objects you have at home, or for those that can’t get your kids off of the tech toys. I found the posting here, at Ducks in a Row, one of my favorite blogs.
Each Sunday Ducks in a Rowhands out 10 tickets to each child. Each ticket represents ½ an hour on a tech toy. The kids give them a ticket and then set the timer. Ducks reserves the right to say no at any time, for when they want to play at 8pm, or they have already used a lot of tickets that day. When they’re out of tickets, they’re out and no amount of crying will get them new tickets.
I love this idea and can totally see having to use this in my near future.

I do not have one of those cupcake carriers to take cupcakes back and forth from our babysitter’s house or to my son’s school. I have wanted one for a long, long time, but am bothered by how much room it would require to store. Low and behold, Real Simple magazine has come up with a brilliant idea. I found this posting over at Everyday Celebratingthis morning, and cannot wait to try this out. I mean, really, a shirt box and a box cutter and you’re good to go. You could even change it up with different wrapping paper to match whatever occasion you've made cupcakes for! Woohoo!

I don't remember where I found this picture of this BEAUTIFUL laundry room, so if you know, please tell me so I can give credit where it is due. But, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. I have been a bit obsessed lately with laundry rooms and wanting to do something with ours, so I have been collecting pictures and ideas and know that someday...my laundry room will be both functional and pretty.
My biggest issue is that our room is TINY. It's also the walk-through to the garage, so there isn't any floor space either. Another problem: most of our clothes get taken off downstairs, so I need a lot of storage baskets for them but no room to put them there. I have a big dowell that goes across the room (literally the width of the washer and dryer) and right above that a hole in the ceiling where someone tried, and failed, to replace the in-ceiling light can. So I need a light fixture that is literally an inch or two thick.
If you have any ideas, please feel free to share them with me.
